Philippines: Checking out Mitsukoshi in Bonifacio Global City, Manila

Date: 12 January 2023

With only a few days left before l had to leave Manila, I wondered how to pass my time. After finishing my work, I stepped out to visit the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) area. First, I took the MRT to Guadalupe station.

My first reason for visiting BGC was to check out the recently opened Mituskoshi shopping center. Mitsukoshi is a high-end department store/mall that’s part of Japan’s Isetan Group. After that, I planned to go see the 3D billboard installation in the BGC, the first of its kind in Manila.

From Guadalupe, I caught a jeepney going towards BGC. I got down… somewhere… and then followed Google Maps to get to Mitsukoshi on foot.

Mitsokoshi is located right next to the Grand Hyatt Manila.

Quite minimalist on the outside

Then again, this was only a soft opening for Mitsukoshi

The interiors were quite aesthetic

The food court and supermarket are at the lower levels while most name brands are on the upper floors

You have showrooms of high end Japanese brands such as Seiko and Lexus inside

It’s not all high-end though. You got more affordable stuff thanks to a Daiso…

… and a Kinokuniya
Owndays, the optical store had opened. Shiseido was ‘coming soon.

In fact, there were a lot of ‘Coming Soon’ signs all around. So I went to the basement levels to check out the supermarket and the food court.

And a deli

The bakery had some of the best pastry I’ve had in Manila! It’s pricier, compared to a chain like BreadTalk, but the quality of the ingredients used cannot be compared!

I checked out the rest of the supermarket

You have sushi rolls and sashimi

And lots of imported seafood from Japan as well

But not everything is Japanese. Gabrielle‘s is a local meat vendor offering organic pork.

As for the rest of the supermarket, you get a lot of imported brands here

Again, very Instagram-friendly interiors… even at the food court!

But you also have some Filipino options too

So if you like all things Japanese, Mitsukoshi looks like a nice place to visit. Something different from the many other malls from SM and the like dotted all across Manila.
