Philippines: Leaving Boracay; Kalibo to Angeles City

Date: 23rd May, 2013

I had some fun in Boracay these past three days, but I was kind of happy to leave the island. The humidity, the lack of proper sleep because of the same, and the sand… ugh, my body yearned for a proper shower and a thorough shampoo rinse. It was time to head back to ‘the city’.

I checked out from Frendz Resort, and made my way to boat jetty. I took a tricycle taxi, and for once paid the local fare of 25 pesos for the ride.

Although I flew into Caticlan airport when coming to Boracay, my Air Asia flight to Clark was going to be from Kalibo airport, located in the north of Aklan province — which is an hour plus drive from Caticlan. Not to worry as there are several van taxis just outside Caticlan jetty. Most of them charge the same ₱175 for the journey.

The journey took more than an hour

Still, we arrived at Kalibo airport with enough time to check in. I didn’t feel like going in just yet, so I had my lunch from a restaurant right across from the airport. Continue reading “Philippines: Leaving Boracay; Kalibo to Angeles City” »

Beachfront hotels and resorts on White Beach, Boracay

This is a list of hotels I took photos of after I was dropped at (the beginning of?) station 3 at the end of my island tour of Boracay. I figured since I had to walk all the way back to station 1, where I was staying at Frendz Resort, I might as well do my readers a favour and take photos of all the properties (hotels and restaurants) right from where I was standing till the very end of White Beach.

I believe I was at the start of station 3

You can find a bigger version of this map here. This is by no means is a comprehensive list of every hotel on White Beach, because I walked towards the north end, and not back towards Station 3 and beyond — where one finds cheaper accommodation on White Beach. Still, there are more than 50 hotels listed below, most of which are situated along station 1 and station 2. Station 1 is generally expensive (both hotels and restaurants), while station 2 is around the mid-range prices, and then you have more resorts at the south end of White Beach. The first half of the photos were taken on an underwater camera I had with me, so if the latter half of the photos look better, that’s because those photos were taken on my Canon 7D.

Philippines: Bulabog beach, Mount Luho viewpoint and sunset at White Beach

Date: 22nd May 2013

Today after breakfast, I decided to walk to Bulabog beach. I chose to stay at Frendz Resort because on the map it showed Bulabog beach was only a few minutes walk away. Bulabog is famous for its strong winds and therefore a popular beach for kite-surfing, wind surfers and para-sailing.

I was excited for some water sports activity and even imagined what a few photos would look like from underwater

But when I got to the beach… Continue reading “Philippines: Bulabog beach, Mount Luho viewpoint and sunset at White Beach” »
