Today I woke up to the sad sight of morning rains. Sad because I hoped for clear skies. Today I would focus entirely on Mt. Mayon (also known as Magayon volcano) — the main reason I came to Legazpi, and quite literally, the region’s biggest attraction.
By the time I stepped out, the rains had reduced to a drizzle and the sun was coming out again
I took two jeepneys (cost me ₱10+₱8) to get to Lignon Hill, which I was told is a great view point to see Mt. Mayon.
Lignon Hill is a bit out of townThere’s an uphill walk aheadLignon Hill has other attractions, but all I was interested in was getting to the topIf you have a private vehicle, you can ride it uphill as there is parking facility at the topIt did get a bit challenging when the steep stretches began — and that too in this heat! You get a panoramic view of Legazpi airport’s runway from up hereIt’s a great place to see airplanes take off15 minutes later, I sensed I was getting closeAnd I was!Although I was tired of climbing, I felt higher the platform, better the viewThey have a lot of zip lining going on here as wellAs for Mount Mayon… sigh, clouds?
I had some fun in Boracay these past three days, but I was kind of happy to leave the island. The humidity, the lack of proper sleep because of the same, and the sand… ugh, my body yearned for a proper shower and a thorough shampoo rinse. It was time to head back to ‘the city’.
I checked out from Frendz Resort, and made my way to boat jetty. I took a tricycle taxi, and for once paid the local fare of 25 pesos for the ride.
After paying ₱100 terminal fee + ₱25 boat ticket, I was finally leaving Boracay islandAnd heading back to Caticlan jettyBack at Caticlan
Although I flew into Caticlan airport when coming to Boracay, my Air Asia flight to Clark was going to be from Kalibo airport, located in the north of Aklan province — which is an hour plus drive from Caticlan. Not to worry as there are several van taxis just outside Caticlan jetty. Most of them charge the same ₱175 for the journey.
Even though the van is supposed to be air-conditioned, it was still kinda hot insideThe journey took more than an hour
This is a list of hotels I took photos of after I was dropped at (the beginning of?) station 3 at the end of my island tour of Boracay. I figured since I had to walk all the way back to station 1, where I was staying at Frendz Resort, I might as well do my readers a favour and take photos of all the properties (hotels and restaurants) right from where I was standing till the very end of White Beach.
I believe I was at the start of station 3
You can find a bigger version of this map here. This is by no means is a comprehensive list of every hotel on White Beach, because I walked towards the north end, and not back towards Station 3 and beyond — where one finds cheaper accommodation on White Beach. Still, there are more than 50 hotels listed below, most of which are situated along station 1 and station 2. Station 1 is generally expensive (both hotels and restaurants), while station 2 is around the mid-range prices, and then you have more resorts at the south end of White Beach. The first half of the photos were taken on an underwater camera I had with me, so if the latter half of the photos look better, that’s because those photos were taken on my Canon 7D.
