Vietnam: Saying goodbye to Ho Chi Minh City

I began my last day in Ho Chi Minh City with a visit to the Saigon Skydeck at the Bitexco Financial Tower.

Bitexco financial tower grey skies — It was time to move on

Once the rain had subsided, I carried my tripod and walked to Nguyen Hue street.

Ho Chi Minh city junction Vietnam — This was my final evening in the city formerly known as Sai Gon… even though all the shop signs still use Sai Gon

I had already been there but I decided to shoot more timelapse sequences.

Vietnam: Views from Bitexco Financial Tower observation deck

Today was my last full day in Ho Chi Minh City. There wasn’t much else left in my itinerary that I wanted to see. All except a visit to the Saigon Skydeck at Bitexco Financial Tower. At 262 m (860 ft), 68 storeys tall, I thought Bitexco Financial Tower was the tallest building in Vietnam but currently that title is held by another skyscraper in Ho Chi Minh City, the 461.2 m (1,513 ft) tall Vincom Landmark 81.

Bitexco financial tower Saigon — Bitexco Financial Tower is 68 floors high, and with a giant A on top, it will resemble the Avengers HQ

Vietnam: Nguyen Hue Street and Saigon Riverwalk

I began my day checking out the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica and Ho Chi Minh City Central Post Office, then post lunch, the nearby Book Street and Opera House. I continued my walk around the city.

Walking to Riverside Saigon Vietnam — I was heading towards the Riverside Walk

Vietcombank TMCP tower — The is the Vietcombank tower — at 206 metres tall, it’s the 7th tallest building in Vietnam

Riverside walk marina pier Saigon — The walk is by Saigon River, which is the main river passing through the city

Saigon river is a crucial trade route for south Vietnam’s industrial belt and the main water source Ho Chi Minh City. It’s location and views also make it a prime land bank for real estate development.

Landmark 81 apartment buildings HCMC Vietnam — The soaring tower over in the distance is Landmark 81. At 461.15 metres high, it is currently the tallest building in Vietnam.

Empire City construction Saigon Vietnam — Across the river is Empire City, a mega real estate project by Singapore’s Keppel Land

There’s another skyscraper proposed to be built at Empire city and its design is very interesting!
