Vietnam: Mui Ne’s Fairy Stream (Suoi Tien)

Date: 29 October 2019

I was on the final leg of my day tour in the coastal town of Mui Ne. What began at sunrise at the famous White Sands was followed up with a quick stop at the Red Sands and a fishing village, and now concluding with a stop at a water stream. Yes, a stream. Why this place was called a ‘fairy stream’ was beyond me but it made me curious.

It was still very much ‘morning’

After we arrived at the parking area of the Fairy Stream, our guide told us we would have to take off our shoes. Sandals are allowed and fortunately, I was wearing them, so I chose to go in with my sandals on.

I don’t remember whether or not we were asked to pay an entrance fee. Even if we were, it would have been a very small amount.

When I began the trek, I wondered how they managed to turn this stream of water into a tourist attraction

I just chuckled and thought to myself, “wow, well played Mui Ne authorities”. I mean, I’ve seen stream like this back in my village.

Even though the water was cool, I could walk faster on solid ground

But as I walked further along, the scenery began to change.

I don’t know if this was one end of the red sand dunes but the rock formations were red-ish in colour

I had to look up on the internet to find out from where the water is originating from. Turns out at the end of the trail is a waterfall. But we were asked to come back in 45 minutes time so I don’t know if that would have been enough to reach the waterfall.

NOW I understood why this stream became a tourist attraction

My tour group was far ahead of me at this point

I was caught up taking photos and videos so I had to catch up with other members in my group. I hate rushing my photography but this is the downside to doing organized tours and being part of a larger group. Group tours are cheaper and convenient but you have to abide by a fixed schedule.

I reached a point where there was log blocking the path. So I took that to be the end of the trail.

I wished to explore further but at this point, I knew I would be the last person in my group to return. And It’s not nice to make people wait too long.

I can safely say that this fairy stream is a worthy attraction

Walking on cool water was relaxing and I would have enjoyed it even more if I had the time to leisurely walk back and forth. But none the less, I’m glad this tour included a stop here. It’s a good end to a perfect half-day tour in the sun.

The real attraction is not the stream… it’s these red sands on top of the limestones

Once I re-joined my tour group, we left the fairy stream

By the time I was dropped back to my hotel, it was just past noon. I woke up very early so I was still exhausted. I decided to have a good lunch and then take a nap. This would be my last night in Mui Ne and I’m happy I got to see everything that I came to see.

Tomorrow, I take a bus back to Ho Chi Minh City.
